Wednesday, February 19, 2025 – Inauguration ceremony of the Academic Year 2024-2025 at the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo with the Lectio Magistralis by Professor Roberto Danovaro, President of the Patto con il Mare per la Terra Foundation and Professor at the Polytechnic University of Marche

On Wednesday, February 19, 2025, at 11:15 AM, the inauguration ceremony for the academic year 2024-2025 will take place at the Sala Rossa of the Pollenzo Agency. The ceremony will begin with a speech by the Rector, Professor Nicola Perullo, followed by a presentation by the guest of honor, Roberto Danovaro, President of the Patto con il Mare per la Terra Foundation and Professor at the Polytechnic University of Marche, who will deliver the Lectio Magistralis titled: “One Sea, One Earth, One Planet.”

The morning will conclude with the final remarks by Carlo Petrini, President of the University of Gastronomic Sciences.

Roberto Danovaro

Roberto Danovaro is a Professor of Ecology, Marine Ecosystem Restoration, and Environmental Sustainability at the Polytechnic University of Marche.
From 2013 to 2022, he served as President of the Anton Dohrn Zoological Station, National Institute of Biology, Ecology, and Marine Biotechnology, and previously was President of the Italian Society of Ecology, the Italian Association of Oceanography and Limnology, and the European Federation of Scientific Societies.
He is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and the EU Academy of Sciences.
As a scientist and explorer, he has led expeditions across all oceans, from Antarctica to the Atlantic, the Indian Ocean to the Pacific, the Mediterranean, and the Black Sea.
His research takes an interdisciplinary approach to understanding the impact of global climate change on biodiversity and ocean function.
Danovaro has authored over 500 scientific publications and several books, and he has received numerous international awards, including the ENI Award for Environmental Protection, the BMC Biology Prize, the Gold Medal of the Oceanographic Institute of Monaco, and the Motumundi Award.
He was recognized by ExpertScape as the world’s leading expert on Seas and Oceans in the decade 2010-2020.
