The BRAINstorm project, a special initiative by the Organizing Committee of the 2025 World University Games Winter in Torino, enters its second phase. Introduced on September 20, 2022, during the International day of University Sport, the challenge of the mind aims to redefine the concept of the Universiade established by Primo Nebiolo in 1959. So far, it has engaged more than 15 Italian universities.
As of November 30, 2023, 33 teams of 4 students each have submitted their projects, evaluated by professors from the four universities in Piedmont. The 9 themes (Sustainability, Life, Cities, Energy, Inequality, Aging, Food, Space, Democracy) selected by the 4 universities of Piemonte (Università di Torino, Politecnico di Torino, Università di Scienze Gastronomiche di Pollenzo, and Università del Piemonte Orientale) for BRAINstorm have captivated over 130 young minds, laying the foundation for the international challenge.
The call now takes on an international dimension: from January 13, 2024, to June 14, 2024, challengers for the initial 33 teams will be sought. A maximum of 90 challengers (10 for each theme) will be selected. From January 13 to January 23, 2025, concurrently with snow and ice sports competitions, the first medals of the World University Mind Games will be awarded.
From July 1 to August 31 2024, the new projects will be chosen, and on September 20, 2024, announced as finalists. This unique initiative in the international sports event landscape is made possible by the contribution of the Camera di commercio di Torino, allowing numerous students to experience the 2025 World University Games as protagonists.
